ADHD Diagnostics – Creating clarity and targeted help
What is ADHD?
ADHD stands for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. It usually begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood. Typical features include:
– Inattention – difficulty concentrating or finishing things.
– Hyperactivity – strong urge to move, inner restlessness.
– Impulsivity – hasty, sometimes rash actions.
These characteristics do not all have to occur at the same time and can vary in intensity depending on the person.
Why a diagnosis is important
If ADHD goes undetected, it can lead to problems at school, at work, or in the social environment. Emotional stress and an increased risk of mental illness or substance abuse can also be consequences.
A thorough diagnosis helps to gain clarity and find the right way to deal with one’s own strengths and challenges.
This is how the diagnosis works
In my practice, I offer structured ADHD assessment. This typically consists of four to five appointments, each lasting approximately one hour. We begin with a free, non-binding initial consultation to get to know each other and discuss whether assessment is appropriate.
The next steps are:
– Anamnesis form: A questionnaire that provides an overview of previous experiences and life history.
– Conversations/Interviews: Here we record typical behavioral patterns and complaints together.
– Testing procedures: Concentration tests and psychological procedures help to assess attention performance more accurately.
At the end of the procedure, there will be a detailed discussion of the findings. Following this, you will receive a written report, which is usually available within two to three weeks.
