LRS Test

Reading and writing difficulties (LRS / dyslexia) in adulthood – recognize, relieve, strengthen

What is Dyslexia?

Reading and writing difficulties – also known as dyslexia – are a specific learning disorder in which reading and/or writing are significantly difficult, despite general intelligence being within the normal range. Many affected individuals have had this disorder since school but are only recognized as such later on – for example, in the context of professional challenges, psychological assessment, or training situations.

Typical signs of dyslexia in adulthood:

  • Slow, laborious, or error-prone reading
  • Difficulty writing without errors (e.g. in emails, reports, forms)
  • Problems with spelling, despite frequent checking or technical aids
  • Uncertainty when writing under time pressure
  • Avoiding written assignments, application letters or further training
  • Feelings of shame or negative memories of school failures

Many adults with dyslexia have learned to live with these challenges or to compensate for them – but often at the expense of self-esteem or professional opportunities.

Why a late diagnosis can be useful

A thorough assessment can help better understand old stress patterns and develop new approaches to dealing with writing—for example, through technical aids, strategic compensation, or targeted support. An official diagnosis can also be helpful when considering career changes, further training, or applying for compensation for disadvantages (e.g., for exams).

Diagnostics are useful if, for example:

  • get tired quickly when reading or have difficulty remembering the content
  • Having to revise texts again and again to avoid errors
  • had negative school experiences with language and still suffer from them today
  • wondering whether there is an explainable cause for your problems with written language
  • wondering whether there is an explainable cause for your problems with written language

Diagnostic procedure in my practice

  1. Preliminary consultation:
In an initial appointment, we will discuss your previous experiences, the specific reason for the diagnosis, and your personal goals.
  2. Medical history and questionnaires:
To prepare, you will receive a questionnaire about your reading and writing history. If relevant, documents from your education, employment, or previous diagnostics may also be included.
  3. Diagnostic testing:
Testing is conducted using scientifically sound methods adapted to adulthood. The following are assessed, among other things:

    • Reading fluency and comprehension
    • Spelling skills
    • Writing strategies and error types
    • Accompanying cognitive functions (e.g. attention)
  4. Evaluation and discussion of findings:
In a detailed final discussion, you will receive transparent feedback on the results. Upon request, I can prepare a written report that you can use, for example, in your studies, career, or to compensate for exam disadvantages.
